I have been learning Salsa, Bachata and Reggaton at Havana Social Dance Studio for about a year and a half now. When I first started, I barely knew how to do a basic salsa step. After only 4 months of practice, I already began to perform on stage with the performance group.

I didn’t start dance until my early 20s. I am a bit of an anomaly in the dance community as most professional dancers start when they are very young. I wanted to create a safe space specifically for adults based on my own dance and fitness journey. Maybe you have never danced before and you have always wanted to try, perhaps you want to stay in shape doing something that is fun, or maybe you danced when you were young and now you just want to experience the joy of movement again. At Free Spirit we foster an inclusive community where you can feel free to explore without judgment. It’s good to try new things because you never know what new and exciting things you might find out about yourself. I never knew that one dance class in Cuba over 20 years ago would lead into a passion that is now my career. I also wanted to create a space where you can experience workouts that are fun! Dance is fun! Fitness is fun!

Free Spirit Dance was named not only to represent my own journey of finding freedom to break free and become what I was called to be, but it was also named to inspire others to do the same! It’s about finding freedom from within ourselves. I am a living example that is never too late to be what you might have been! What I love most about movement is that it is just good food for the soul! It makes you feel alive!

Pure Energy Dance Foundation is a registered Non-profit dance studio. Founded in 2009 by a parent group, PEDF continues to be run by an executive and its members. Fund-raising and volunteering are instrumental to the operation of our studio, as are donations from the community. Our goal is to have high quality dance instruction that is affordable to everyone.

PEDF Dance Studio offers all inclusive (No Try Outs!) Recreational and Competitive classes for ages 3 through adult, from beginners to advanced in:

As a Not-For-Profit Pure Energy is able to provide personal fundraising opportunities to those families wishing to access additional funds to support their dancers during their time at the studio.

For each Bingo event you work, your account will be credited $40.

After you have attended a training session and obtained your PROSERVE you may volunteer for Calgary Sporting Events such as Flames, Hitmen and Stamps. For each event you work your account will be credited $45 - $85

Every year in June our Little Dancers get to shine up on stage at our Annual Recital !

This is often the moment when children really learn to love dance. Getting to have a special costume and head onto the Big Stage, just like the older dancers makes them feel like a star.

It is so amazing to watch a dancer who at the beginning of the dance year may have been nervous to go to class, but then gets up on stage and struts their stuff for their loved ones to watch.

These little ones can be unpredictable on stage, but that is part of the fun. Our Tiny Toes, Happy Feet, Primary and Junior dancers always steal the show with their adorable smiles, bright shining faces and sweet dances!

Aerial Fusion is a unique way to fly and defy gravity with a blend of yoga, pilates and dance inspired movements done with aerial silk hammocks. The aerial hammock is used as an apparatus to help support and suspend areas of the body in the air 2 – 4 feet from the ground. Aerial Fusion is designed to develop a balance between breathing, stretching, strengthening, and relaxing, all while exploring playful movements with your body. No experience required!
