Mr. Vladimir Basanov began his formal musical training at age 7, studying piano and contrabass. At the age of 16, the Bulgarian government gave him a scholarship to the Academic School of Music and Choreography affiliated to the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, Russia. He studied Ballet, Choreography and Piano and received the First Prize for piano in 1984 and 1985. Back to Bulgaria, Vladimir studied Kaval (the Bulgarian flute) with the world-renown musician Theodosii Spasov and with Nikola Ganshev and played this flute at the Philharmonic Orchestra of Sofia under the direction of conductor Yosif Gerdjikov. Vladimir was the Principal Dancer in the National Opera and Ballet Theatre of Sofia for 11 years. The Bulgarian Ministry of Culture honored him with Outstanding Artistic Achievement in 1991. During his ballet career, Vladimir continued to play music. Music is his passion and he enjoyed teaching piano and guitar to a few students. Vladimir and his wife Fabienne (who paints) moved to Canada in 2001 and he danced with the Alberta Ballet until 2003.

4worldlovers: Jocelyn Bouwkamp is a private voice and piano teacher who began her musical education with piano lessons at the age of 5. After becoming involved in her school production of “Annie,” she fell in love with singing and began taking formal voice training at age 14. She performed regularly in Concert Choirs and Vocal Jazz, as well as other Musical Theatre Productions. Jocelyn then went on to receive her Bachelor of Music Degree in Voice Performance from the University of Alberta Augustana Campus, where she regularly performed solos in choir, as well as solo recitals.


In 2017 Jocelyn graduated from Western University with her Masters of Music where was she was involved in opera, recitals, masterclasses, and was the Soprano II Section Leader of New St. James Presbyterian Church. Jocelyn regularly performs throughout Calgary in private recitals and donates her time by singing for the Living With Cancer Society. She is also the Co Founder of the Three Sisters Young Artists Society, which aims to bring classical music performing opportunities to young musicians. Past roles include Pamina (The Magic Flute), Gretel (Hansel and Gretel), and Maria (West Side Story).


Jocelyn is very well versed in Classical and Musical Theatre styles, and enjoys exploring those genres with students. Jocelyn knows that every student is different, and that lessons should be focused on creating individual goals and addressing their own personal needs. Students can expect to learn healthy singing that can be applied to any genre.

Outside of music, Jocelyn enjoys doing puzzles, petting her two kitties, making cold processed soap, and most of all spending time with her one (soon to be two) kiddos.

Calgary born Soprano Julia Buker (She/Her) is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario’s master’s program in vocal performance.

Praised for her “beautiful honed tones and expressive singing,” She has performed a wide variety of repertoire including opera, art song, early music, choral, renaissance, and jazz. From 2019-2021, Julia sang with the professional chamber choir Musikay (Hamilton, ON), and was a chorus member and featured soloist for Chor Amica (London, ON). Julia has presented 6 solo voice recitals (1hr), performed in the Calgary Opera Chorus, sung with Calgary’s professional choir Luminous Voices, is a hired section lead for the Calgary Bach Choir, and has performed in multiple shows presented by Cowtown Opera Company. She has worked as a choral scholar for numerous churches (St. George’s Anglican, Huron University, (London, ON), and Christ Church Cathedral (Calgary AB)) and has participated in the Canadian Renaissance Music Summer School in 2018 and 2019. Julia has been teaching music for over 10 years. Having experience in a wide variety of musical forms, Julia puts emphasis on variety into her lessons. She also teaches music theory and music history, and aims to build passion and versatility in her students.

Currently, Julia is working on preparing a Canadian Composer Art Song Recital to take on tour in 2023, which will include the world premiere of a song cycle written by Edmonton composer Joseph Cheukman Lai.

Vocalist and performer Lizzie Misutka is a Musical Theatre graduate from the Randolph College for the Performing Arts in Toronto, and holds her advanced Grade 10 vocal certification through the Royal Conservatory of Music in vocal performance.

On top of her love of singing and formal vocal training, Lizzie has also enjoyed nearly two decades as a classically trained pianist. She reached the advanced levels, completing Grade 10 in classical piano certification through the Royal Conservatory of Music studying with Prof. Charles Foreman in Calgary.

In her free time she enjoys reading and hiking with her dog.

Makenna has been playing the piano for 12 years. She has finished her Royal Conservatory of Music grade 7 practical exam in piano and grade 8 theory where she scored the top mark in Alberta. She is entering her final year at Ambrose University where she continues to study music and piano, as well as behavioral sciences.

She enjoys playing both classical pieces and modern pop songs in her free time. Outside of music, Makenna enjoys painting, crafting, and traveling. She is excited to share her joy for music with her students!

Annabel Wu has also been playing piano since at the age of 10, and has completed the Royal Conservatory of Music Level 8 in both piano and theory under the tutelage of Karen Gerelus. She is working towards her Level 9 as she completes her final year of high school. She is passionate about her education, hoping to major in the Sciences at the same time as potentially pursuing a piano teacher career. Annabel also enjoys participating in her school music program, where she plays the flute.

Svetlana is a fantastic music teacher! My 2 kids learned to play the piano under her tutelage from 2015 to 2021. They have become amazing young musicians due to Svetlana's hard work, patience and dedication to proper music tutoring. Both of my girls won the Manitoba RCM gold medals twice while Svetlana was their teacher. Had she not moved to Calgary she will still be their teacher.
